Introduction
My name is Carrie Lee, and my portfolio is a representation of all that I’ve learned and accomplished as a Masters of Arts in Teaching candidate. I am seeking a dual-endorsement in English and history for secondary education teaching certification. During my student teaching experience, I taught primarily 9th grade Honors English. I have been told I bring elementary energy to my high school classrooms, and my portfolio reflects my Ms. Frizzle (The Magic School Bus) meets Mr. Feeney (Boy Meets World) style of teaching (Cole, et al., 1994 & Blutman, et al., 1995). Throughout the portfolio, you will see I incorporate unconventional learning activities and project-based assessments. I also focus on differentiation to include activities that play to the strengthens of all learning styles.
My prior experience, working with children as a guardian-ad-litem gave me behavioral and background insights that aids in diffusing angry or upset students quickly. My experience as a parent has provided me the benefits of patience, adaptability, developmental understanding, and a priceless set of patented looks only a mom can give. All of which have been the foundation of my classroom management techniques and success. My pre-service experience is exceptionally unique because I taught through the pandemic, in Zoom remote learning classroom, a hybrid classroom that was teaching both in Zoom and in the classroom as 50% of our students remained remote, and finally, the past 4 months have been exclusively in-person in the classroom.
As I completed my Master’s degree, I chose the InTASC standard number eight, instructional strategies to focus my capstone project and literature review on, and the resulting paper and presentation have been included in my portfolio under that standard.
